Survivorship & Living with Cancer
Currently there are nearly 12 million cancer survivors in the United States, with 8,500 of them living in Central and Eastern Oregon. More and more, cancer is being thought of as a chronic disease, something that needs to be managed rather than feared.
A cancer diagnosis, like every life-changing event, brings up an array of emotions and concerns that challenge us to look at life in ways we may not have thought of before. Many survivors tell us that their cancer experience knocked them alive – that through it they gained a greater sense of who they are, a stronger appreciation of their loved ones, and simple gratitude for everyday living.
In August, 2007, a generous donation from the Tour des Chutes organization helped establish the Cancer Survivorship Program at St. Charles. Here, survivorship begins at the moment of diagnosis because that is when living takes on new meaning. Our goal is that every person diagnosed with cancer, or living with a history of cancer, will have access to a variety of supportive, life-affirming programs through treatment and beyond.
We are here to help you make the most of your cancer journey – to help you navigate your cancer experience with knowledge, grace and a richer appreciation of all that you value in your life. And for that we say, LIVESTRONG!
