Stress Management & Wellness Education
Knowledge is power, which makes health education a key component of wellness . St. Charles Cancer Care has information on topics ranging from cancer prevention and early detection, to managing treatment, the mind-body connection, stress managment and complementary therapies. Our goal is to help you find whatever resources you need to feel knowledgeable, confident and strong.
- The Cancer Treatment Center Library has books, audio CDs and videos on topics of interest to cancer patients and survivors – all available for free checkout.
- DEFEAT Cancer is a survivorship empowerment program that focuses on nutrition, physical activity, education and inspiration. DEFEAT meets the second Tuesday of each month, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Bend, with live-feed videoconferencing to Redmond and Burns.
- Living Well with Chronic Conditions was created by Stanford University to help people with any kind of health condition live more fully. This class is especially useful when re-grouping after a cancer experience. Classes are 2-1/2 hours long and meet for six consecutive weeks. We offer this program through the Cancer Treatment Center, but it is also offered in various locations throughout Deschutes county. For information, contact Karen Davis at (541) 706-4981.
- A wide variety of periodic wellness presentations and on-going classes are held at the hospital for community members. The hospital calendar of classes and events has dates, times and descriptions.
- A free breast health education presentation is available for community groups, schools, clubs and businesses throughout Central Oregon. This program is taught by breast cancer survivor Lizzi Katz, COTA/L, and sponsored this year by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, in partnership with the American Cancer Society.
- Prevention and early detection presentations are also available to schools, civic groups, businesses and faith organizations. Programs include "Tobacco Awareness," "Cancer Awareness," and "Cancer: Mind, Body & Spirit."
