Why Do We Work at MVH?
Perhaps best said by caregiver Kandi Hendrix, RHIT, coder in Health Information Management, “MVH is like a quilt. Comforting to have around. Covered in a variety of skills. Filled with comfort and compassion. Backed by a dependable medical staff, and all tied together with individual employee’s integrity.”
There are many stories about how our caregivers have gone the extra mile for coworkers. While our focus is always on our patients and their family members we also rally around a caregiver in times of need. From simple things like when an employee stayed home with the flu and a co-worker took the time to drop supper by on the way home, to being there as a supportive force when a caregiver’s house burned down, or providing compassionate support for the family of a longtime caregiver who unexpectedly passed away. Not only do patients and families benefit from the heart-felt compassion of our staff, employees benefit as well. We take extra care to provide for the caregiver.
We depend on feedback from staff as we work towards our goal of being the “greatest place to work”. Our open-door policy, monthly Caregiver Forums with the CEO, and a ‘Culture of Safety’ rounds with departments and Mavens are just a few of the ways we reach out to employees for input.
Innovative Ideas
What is a Maven? Mavens are a group of trusted advisors, chosen by hospital staff to represent their interests to the administration team. The Mavens meet as needed and routinely discuss the “hot” topic of the moment. Topics might include things like: “if you could change one thing about MVH, what would that be?” or “would you like to give input on our upcoming strategic plans?”.
Innovation or ‘thinking outside the box’ is highly encouraged at MVH. As a result of this kind of creative encouragement ‘Sages, Servants and Scholars’ was recently developed at Mountain View Hospital. This exciting new program is designed to recognize staff achievements. Once a staff member becomes a ‘Sage’ they automatically receive a raise in base pay.
Our Commitment to Staff
Another key component to working at MVH is our commitment to furthering staff’s education. Currently we partner with area colleges to assist achieving degrees in nursing and imaging in just 18 months. We also have programs for phlebotomists, AA in Medical Lab Technologist, nurse aide classes and more.
