Mountain View Hospital and Local Clinics to Host Diabetic Seminar
Guided by the belief that every person with diabetes has the right to live a healthy, happy and productive life, Mountain View Medical and Surgical Associates (MSA), Madras Medical Group (MMG) and Mountain View Hospital (MVH) in Madras are working together to educate and motivate people to take a more active role in living a healthier life. The community is invited to attend a Diabetic Seminar to learn about new diabetic services and technologies available in Madras. The seminar is offered at no charge and will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 12:30pm to 4:30 pm at the Inn at Cross Keys Station, 66 NW Cedar Street , Madras, OR . This event also includes free glucose screenings, blood pressure and body mass measurements. Carb-conscious refreshments and appetizers will also be served.
The professional panel of presenters includes Gary Plant, MD, Family Practice Physician, Patrick McCarthy, MD, FACE, Endocrinologist, Tina Gruner, MS, Certified Diabetic Educator and Registered Dietician and Jarrod Shapiro, DPM, Podiatrist.
Topics of discussion range from an Introduction of Diabetic Care Now Available in Madras to Tightening the Controls of Diabetes, also including The ABC’s of a Diabetic Lifestyle as well as Podiatry Care for Diabetics.
According to the American Diabetes Association, nationwide statistics indicate 7.8% of the population has diabetes, 17.9 million people have been diagnosed with the disease while 5.7 million people remain undiagnosed. The Oregon Department of Human Services reports from 2002 to 2005, the rate of diabetes among adults in Jefferson County was 11.5 percent compared to the State of Oregon statistics at 6.2 percent.
