Podiatrist to Serve Two Communities
Madras, OR (July 2, 2008) When podiatrist Jarrod Shapiro, DPM arrives in July, a new arrangement will begin for two local Critical Access Hospitals: Mountain View Hospital in Madras and Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville. The two hospitals will share his services and expertise. Dr. Shapiro will hold clinic office hours and perform procedures in both communities.
Dr. Shapiro is board qualified by the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine as well as by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
He and his family have moved here from Michigan , where he had two practices: one in the more urban town of Lansing and a practice in Owosso .
Dr. Shapiro graduated from Northern Arizona University , Flagstaff , with a BA in English and a BS in Microbiology. He went on to complete his doctor of podiatric medicine studies at California College of Podiatric Medicine in Oakland . He served his podiatric surgical residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills , Michigan , where he was elected chief resident during his second and third years of residency. Botsford is a 330-bed medical facility near Detroit , and is associated with the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“I have always been interested in medicine, in how the human body works,” Dr Shapiro states. “I wanted to work in a service field and searched for one that would combine my interest in people with my interest in a scientific field, a way to be of service to people.
“I have foot problems myself, and so I understand and can sympathize with patients who see me when they are in pain,” he continues. “I can take care of anything having to do with the foot and ankle, from adult to pediatric feet, reconstructive procedures, trauma, diabetic wound care, and sports injuries. I include elective foot and ankle surgeries, flat feet, bunions and nerve pain in my practice. I also do hospital work including inpatient wound and palliative care.”
“I have two goals upon moving to Central Oregon : to become part of these communities, giving the people who live here another medical resource, and to make a home for my family,” he states. Dr. Shapiro is married, and he and his wife have a three year old boy. When he is not in the office, Dr. Shapiro enjoys hiking, reading, sculpting in clay and listening to music. He looks forward to learning to fly fish.
“My family and I have already noticed in the short time we have been here that people are so friendly. In stores, they recognize us; we are on a first name basis already. This is in direct contrast to our experience in the larger cities like Phoenix and Lansing , where you are pretty much anonymous.”
In Prineville, Dr. Shapiro will hold office clinics in the Physician Associates Medical Building at 1251 NE Elm Street . In Madras , his office will be in the Mountain View Medical and Surgical Associates building next to the hospital at 480 NE A Street .
His Madras office staff will coordinate appointments and surgery scheduling for both locations. The office phone number is 541-475-4800. A toll-free 800-telephone number will be operational very soon for Crook County residents, so that people will not have to make a long-distance call to make a local appointment.
