Second Annual Walktober Fitness Challenge

The Mountain View Hospital Foundation’s Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) sponsored its second annual Walktober Fitness Challenge for Mountain View Hospital, 509J School District and Jefferson County employees, during the month of October. In total there were 142 participants.

Competitors were encouraged to increase the time and frequency of their cardio-respiratory activities; such as walking, hiking, swimming, jogging, and aerobics.  Participants logged their minutes for each day they exercised.  Prizes were awarded to the top performing male and female as well as the business logging the most employee minutes.

This year's female winner was Dee Elias from Mountain View Medical & Surgical Associates.   She logged 3,800 minutes working out on her treadmill.   There was a tie for the winner of the male category; Chris Scranton of Madras High School and James Sam of Warm Springs Elementary.  Chris logged 2,610 minutes walking, hiking and scouting deer.  James logged 2,610 minutes walking.  Jefferson County received the honor of winning the Walktober Cup Corporate challenge and the coveted Walktober Trophy by logging the most employee minutes.

Congratulations to all of the 2008 Walktober participants.   For more information on getting your business registered to participate in the 2009 Walktober Fitness Challenge, please contact Beth Ann Beamer, CHIP Coordinator at 541-475-3882 ext. 2436.
