Mountain View Hospice Offers Training for Volunteers
Mountain View Hospice (MVH) announces the launch of their volunteer training program. The program is co-facilitated by Deborah Thinnes, MSW, Interim Director of Home Health and Hospice and Bill Topash, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator. The trainings will be offered on a quarterly basis depending on the level of community interest or independent study may be arranged.
The training focuses on policies and procedures, what hospice is, insight is provided into disease process, pain and symptom management, education about the psycho, social, emotional and spiritual process, as well as ways to provide support and steps needed to establish final affairs. Self-care is also discussed, which includes care of one’s mind, body and soul.
The volunteer trainings are held from 6pm to 9pm in the Mountain View Hospital Community Education Room, spanning three consecutive evenings. During the last evening of training, volunteers are presented with a certificate of accomplishment acknowledging their volunteer status.
Once a volunteer has completed their training, there are numerous opportunities available to support the hospice agency. Optional areas interest include direct patient companionship, family support and respite, volunteer and bereavement program support, agency office support, light housekeeping and the ability to run errands, deliver medication, supplies and equipment.
