Activities to Meet Your Lifestyle
There is a lot going on something every day! Residents can participate in exercise group, bingo, movies, music programs, as well as special events such as birthday parties, dances, singing groups and holiday festivities that change with the season. Many of our activities are geared toward the cognitively impaired resident. Our ‘Wake Up!’ program is specifically designed to help residents with dementia improves their sensory perception and draw on their memories.
Our Activities Program has been operational for more than 20 years, and is valuable for our residents and their families. We work with the individual residents to find some activity that pleases and stimulates each person. We constantly look for new ways to energize the residents and expand their quality of living. The Activity program also includes many themed-meals and barbeques over the course of a year and we offer devotions on a daily basis.
Gardening
Gardening appeals to some, and for these, we have portable gardens that can be tended outdoors or in. Others enjoy the weekly field trips in beautiful Jefferson County year around.
Environmental Services
All residents are served by our trained housekeeping staff who provide daily room cleaning, weekly bed changes (more often as needed) and routine laundry services.
Family Participation and Volunteering
Families are encouraged to participate in all activities and to volunteer whenever possible. This program is flexible and provides helpful volunteers for activities throughout the week and weekends. The local schools also host special musical events during the year for residents. They also help with activities such as card making, reading and bingo. This is an extension to our current Activity Program.
Unique Décor Provides a Homey Feel
We use the ‘Best Friends’ approach, which is a model that allows families to personalize their loved one’s room with many familiar personal belongings as space allows. Decorative items such as afghans, quilts and decorative pillows help to identify the resident’s space. Every room features a bulletin board for photos and other mementoes.
Cultural Diversity
We have a Tribal Member from Warm Springs visit weekly and cooks a Native American meal for everyone to enjoy. We serve a culturally diverse population including Native American, Anglo and Hispanics.
