What is Respiratory Therapy?
Respiratory therapists are healthcare professionals who specialize in helping people to breathe, and they play an integral role in the overall healthcare team. Our respiratory therapists use medications, therapies and tests to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and lung disease and they also perform pulmonary function testing.
Our Respiratory Therapy Care Team
Our experienced and licensed Respiratory Therapists serve patients on an out-patient basis and throughout the hospital including in the:
- Operating rooms
- Intensive care units
- General hospital wards
- Emergency department
An Essential Part of the Care Team
Considered an essential service, our Respiratory Therapists provide coverage 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The Respiratory Therapy Care Team provides all modes of respiratory therapies, including:
- Oxygen
- Bronchiodilator
- Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB) therapies
- Postural drainage
- Pulmonary percussion
The Respiratory Services Department also provides mechanical ventilation and monitoring for patients requiring life support in the intensive care setting.
Out-Patient Services
This department offers a quick turnaround on diagnostics, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs) and pulmonary function tests. Outpatient services include EKGs and pulmonary function tests. We also have appointments available on the weekends to accommodate your busy schedule.
