Health Calendar for January 2008

Lots of "healthy dates" to take advantage of in January for Crook County. Take a look at these happenings:

January 3 – Next session begins for Prepared Childbirth Classes at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. The seven-week course covers many aspects of labor and delivery, nutrition for you and baby, medications, breast feeding and much more. Classes are free if you plan to deliver at PMH; otherwise, cost is $40. Contact instructor Penny Winterburn, RN, IBCLC, to register and for more information: 447-6254.

January 7Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Monday evening for one hour beginning at 7:00 p.m. Call 416-2017 for directions and information.

January 8Freshstart,” the American Cancer Society approved tobacco cessation course begins. Our quick two-week, four-session class costs $20, with a $15 rebate to those who complete all four sessions. January 25 – Circles of Care luncheon begins at 12 noon in the Cascade Conference Room, PMH Home Health Wing. Open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Call PMH Hospice Office at 447-2510 for more information.

During the month of January

Cervical Cancer Screening Month and Cervical Health Awareness Month: This observance seeks to urge women to get screened for cervical cancer in order to prevent the disease. Contact your doctor’s office, the Crook County Health Department or Ochoco Community Clinic for more information.

January 9 –  Find a Dentist Day is celebrating its eighth anniversary on this day. Dental Health is one of the areas of focus selected for 2008 by the Crook County CHIP project, (Community Health Improvement Partnership). Contact CHIP coordinator Sharon Vail at 447-6254 for more information, or to volunteer for this important committee.

January 21 – 25 –  National Nurse Anesthetists Week. We recognize the PMH Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, (CRNA) led by Shelley Teng, CRNA.
