August 11: Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Monday. Call 416-2017 for directions and information.

August 14: Living Well with Diabetes classes begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Ochoco Conference Room at Pioneer Memorial Hospital . The comprehensive five-session series features information on these topics: Effects of Uncontrolled Diabetes—please bring glucometer for demonstration, Diabetes Medication Update, Eating Well with Diabetes, Foot Care and Diabetes and What do Food Labels Mean? August 25: Be-Tobacco-Free series begins at 7 p.m. in the Community Conference Room near Clinic Pharmacy. This series is a five-session program from August 25  through 29.  Moderator is Randy Cottrell, CRTT former director of Respiratory Therapy at PMH. Main speaker by DVD will be Dr. Arthur Weaver, cancer surgeon. Handouts will be provided each night along with follow-up phone assistance as is listed in the Crook County Tobacco-Free Coalition’s packets. No charge to participants. August 29: Circles of Care luncheon open to anyone who has lost a loved one. A light lunch will be served, with caring and sharing, beginning at 12 noon in the Cascade Room, Home Health wing at Pioneer Memorial Hospital . Call 447-2510 for more information.

Late-August: Prepared Childbirth series begins. This seven-week course covers the stages of your pregnancy, delivery, your newborn, nutrition, medications and much more. Class leader is Penny Winterburn, RN, IBCLC. The series is free if you plan to deliver at Pioneer Memorial Hospital; otherwise, cost is $40. Call 447-6254 to register.

September 13: Community Health Fest from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Farmer’s Market in the Prineville City Plaza . The Crook County CHIP program is sponsoring this free event featuring drawings, live music and dance demonstrations. Twenty-one exhibitors, and lots of healthy foods will be on-site for you.

Month long:

August is National Immunization Awareness Month:   If you are not sure whether your children’s immunizations are up-to-date, stop by the Crook County Health Department, or check with your healthcare provider to see what shots they will need before school begins.   Call the Health Department for shot clinic hours:  447-6165.
