THE HISTORY OF GIVING

More than half a century of history exists within the walls of St. Charles Redmond. The Redmond community and the health care industry have changed dramatically since the hospital first opened its doors as Central Oregon District Hospital in 1952. Notably, St. Charles Redmond has seen significant
changes as the finishing touches have been put on capital improvements to the facility.
The recent opening of the new JELD-WEN Tower, broughtexciting and much heralded health care resources to the Redmond community. While celebrating Redmond's progress is important, it is also meaningful to take time out to honor and preserve its history. A new wall display recognizing the rich history of the Redmond hospital will do just that.
Slated to be unveiled in May, the History Wall is the ideal complement to the comfortable and welcoming new lobby area.
"We're very proud of the accomplishments of all those involved with the hospital over the decades," noted Redmond Administrator Patrick Varga. "It's an honor to be able to provide this recognition to the community for all its efforts. We hope everyone who has been touched by our hospital will visit the History Wall."
The project was spearheaded by St. Charles Foundation donors Jim and Vicky Diegel, who wanted to commit their gift to an area of special meaning. Jim and Vicky decided to make their gift in memory of well-known community leader and philanthropist, Elizabeth "Becky" Johnson.
Jim Diegel, who also serves as President and CEO of Cascade Healthcare Community, said, "Becky Johnson was so important to this hospital and this community. I also considered Becky to be a good friend, and I benefited greatly from her guidance and kindness. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to honor Becky in this way."
Becky's kind and generous spirit will have permanent recognition as part of the History Wall, a tribute that is certain to inspire future generations. This project represents the enduring spirit of teamwork and commitment to compassionate care on which the hospital was founded.
