Mr. RHS campaign wraps up with annual pageant and talent contest

April 12 event will culminate in the crowning of Mr. RHS 2008

Redmond, Ore. – In the final event of the Mr. RHS campaign, participants will trade in their jeans and Mr. RHS T-shirts for tuxes and bow ties. The campaign wraps up on Saturday, April 12 with a pageant and talent contest which will result in the crowning of this year’s Mr. RHS.

This is the third year the Mr. RHS contestants have worked to raise funds for the St. Charles Bend NICU. The goal for the 14 senior boys, selected by students and teachers, was to raise $20,000. Already, the campaign has raised more than $15,000 and they expect to surpass their goal.

St. Charles Bend recently opened a brand-new, state-of-the-art NICU moving from a multi-patient bay setting to 12 new private rooms. The hands-on portion of this year’s Mr. RHS campaign allowed students to shadow a nurse in the St. Charles Bend NICU.

Aaron Wells is a Redmond police officer whose daughter was a patient in the St. Charles NICU when she was born two and a half years ago. When Wells spoke to the students during one of the many educational lectures during the campaign, he wanted to be sure the participants knew how important their work was.

“Anything that is going to benefit the St. Charles NICU is positive. The NICU staff is awesome and they worked well with us,” Wells said. “It is really important to have good care for premature babies in this region.”

Wells’ daughter is now a healthy and very energetic child with no complications from her premature birth. The entire family plans to attend the pageant.

In the final days of the Mr. RHS campaign, each participant will be interviewed by a panel. During the pageant each contestant will be judged on a self-produced video, a talent act and his formal wear. The winner of the Mr. RHS crown will be decided on participation leading up to the pageant, as well as performance during the event and total dollars raised.

Tickets to the pageant are available now at the Redmond High School main office and are $10. This event sells out every year. The pageant will begin at 6 p.m. in the Redmond High School auditorium.
